Tips to Decorating Your Walls Without Ruining The Paints

It is always fun to decorate your home for the holidays or to have nice wall art hanging year-round. But if done incorrectly, it can really damage the paint on the walls. We have some tips to help you still be able to decorate without harming your painted walls.

High-Quality Paint

Of course, it starts with using high-quality paint on your walls. Never use cheap paint just to save a buck. The quality of paint is not where you want to make sacrifices.

Talk with our painting experts to learn about which paint we recommend. We also recommend prepping the walls properly, then using a high-quality primer, follow by using high-quality paint. Using high-quality paint will look better, last longer, and handle better when it comes to scratches, scruffs, and damage.

Limit the Use of Nails

There are many options out there when it comes to hanging decorations. The ideal way to ensure your decoration stays in place is to use a nail, but this can be damaging to your painted walls.

If you absolutely have to use a nail for heavy decorations, we recommended using the smallest nail possible. Also, only use nails for items that are permanent or in an area where you know you will always be needing decor.

Tips for Temporary Decorations

Avoid using nails for temporary decorations. When hanging holiday decorations like cobwebs and monsters for Halloween or garland and mistletoe for Christmas, use items that will not harm your walls.

Special adhesives and hooks will easily blend in and are great for light pieces.

Putty can also work well for decorations like cobwebs and garland. It is easy to remove and blends in so no one can see it.

Magnetic Paint

If you are really looking to get creative, check out magnetic paint. This is great to use when you are trying to figure out where you want to place your decorations. There are also magnetic primers available. Then, all you have to do is apply magnetics to the back of your décor, genius!
