Take pride in your home’s interior paint by keeping the walls fresh by maintaining them.
You spend the money and take the time to paint your home’s interior professionally. So, it makes sense to keep those walls clean and beautiful between the touch-ups and paint jobs.
Make it a habit to keep the interior walls of your home clean to help the paint last, and if you have a family with kids and pets, do this more often. Plus, keeping spaces clean and beautiful creates a healthy environment in your home.
First Things First: Prep Away
Prepping is always vital. So, before diving into cleaning your walls, make sure you choose the correct technique by keeping the finish of your paint in mind. Each room may have a different paint finish, so each room may require a different cleaning technique. One room may have a matte finish, whereas another room may have a shinier finish and needs to be cleaned differently, so the paint doesn’t lose its shine.
This is why it is essential to remember the finish because you don’t want to use the wrong products or cleaning techniques that will remove the paint. It is usually a good idea always to stick to gently cleaning products. Harsh chemicals will strip the paint and leave streaks on your wall. Always spot-test a small area before doing the entire wall.
After you decide on the proper cleaning technique, prep the walls by dusting them. Before cleaning your walls, remove all cobwebs from top to bottom. This can be achieved by using a cloth, broom, or vacuum.
Time to Start Cleaning
You will need a couple of buckets, sponges, and dry microfiber cloths to get the job done. One bucket will have clean, warm water, and the other will have gentle soap and water to be used as your cleaning solution.
Start at the top of the wall and work your way down using a sponge and going in circular light motions while working your way down the wall. Work in sections to prevent any discoloration.
Once you have lightly cleaned the wall, wash the soap with warm water and wipe off any residue with a dry cloth. Then, move on to the next section. Let the walls dry completely before adding any decor or paint touch-ups.
You will want to do this often whenever you notice your walls getting dull, dingy, or dirty. Remember, by making this habit, you will make your paint job last longer!
